Sakyo-Ku, Kyoto, Japan: A little old-time religion
Japanese history has it that that the Yuki Jinja Shrine, located near Kyoto, Japan, used to keep bad spirits from harming Heian-kyo–now known as Kyoto–in the mid-10th century.
This view, from just outside of the walk to the shrine itself, provides a serene view where many people come daily to visit. Check out their website while you’re at it. You may not be able to read Japanese, but the many photos–including the annual torch-bearing ceremony held every October 22nd to commemorate the relocation of Yuki’s deity–are captivating and worth your time to explore.
